Hwawon Natural Recreation Forest
Situated in Bolli-ri, Hwawon-eup, Dalseong, Hwawon Natural Recreation Forest has long been popular as a favorite summer vacation spot with lush green forest and deep mountain valley. The forest shares a border with a ridge of Biseulsan Mountain and thus enjoys great popularity among hikers as well.

In response to growing interest in mountain trekking and recreation, Dalseong County obtained the Korea Forest Service’s approval in 2003 to designate and form this natural recreation forest over a total area of 72 hectares.

Features and amenities on site include lodging facilities, such as the condominium-style Forest Culture & Relaxation Center (nine rooms) and the pension-style Forest Houses (six units); one unit of outdoor bathrooms; trekking trails; hiking trails; wooden pavilions with hexagonal roofs; valley-side trekking courses; the Green Shower Forest; and an outdoor pool for children. DFMC intends to add even more diverse amenities and features to this list in the coming years.

There are also numerous local historic heritage sites and facilities around the forest, including Yongmunsa Temple; the village of the Nampyeong Mun clan in Bolli (Municipal Folkloric Material No. 3) which features numerous late-Joseon-style hanok (traditional Korean buildings) on the former site of Inheungsa Temple; and Inheungseowon Confucian Academy, which houses the one and only copy of wood block-printed Myeongsimbogam (Municipal Tangible Cultural Property No. 37), one of the essential classic texts with which children studied Confucianism.
